Fisherman Garth Bowers, alias 'Silva' of Greenwich Town, St Andrew, today delivered on his promise made last year by providing 100lbs of fish to the Maxfield Park Children's Home.

Bowers was the recipient of a 40-horsepower boat engine under the government's Integrated Community Development Project, which was implemented by the Jamaica Social Investment Fund (JSIF).

The Government of Jamaica established the Jamaica Social Investment Fund (JSIF) to assist in its poverty eradication programme. Jamaica Social Investment Fund has entered into a partnership with the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development for Facilitation of Housewiring and Pole Line Functions . The Jamaica Social Investment Fund intends to use part of the proceeds of this agreement to cover payments under the following contracts:

August Town Integrated Infrastructure Project (IIP), Phase 2 – August Town Proper & Goldsmith Villa Section 2, St. Andrew.

The Jamaica Social Investment Fund (JSIF) has been commended by Local Government and Rural Development Minister, Hon. Desmond McKenzie, for the significant work being done by the organisation.

“This is one public entity that deserves honour and respect because of their commitment and the fact that they have delivered more than they have committed on many, many occasions,” the Minister said.

He was speaking recently at the official opening of the Yallahs Fire Station in St. Thomas by Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Andrew Holness.
