For many Jamaicans, flipping a switch to light a room, charge a phone, or keep food fresh in a refrigerator is an effortless daily routine. Yet for thousands of households across the island, reliable, safe electricity has long remained out of reach. In vulnerable communities, energy poverty forces families to rely on dangerous makeshift connections or kerosene lamps—putting lives, homes, and livelihoods at constant risk.
Through the National Energy Poverty Reduction Project (NEPRP) and ongoing community electrification initiatives, the Jamaica Social Investment Fund (JSIF) is tackling this challenge head-on. By breaking down financial, physical, and informational barriers, JSIF is delivering safe, legal grid access to the Jamaicans who need it most.
