News Detail

The PetroCaribe Development Fund (PDF) has disbursed $2 billion over the last three years, to support government’s social intervention programmes. This was disclosed by Client Relations Manager at the PDF, Shakierah Cowan, at a JIS ‘Think Tank’, recently.
Cowan told JIS News that significant support has also been given to the Jamaica Social Investment Fund (JSIF) to carry out its poverty reduction strategies.
Established in 1996 as a component of the Government’s national poverty alleviation strategy, the JSIF was designed primarily to channel resources to small-scale community based projects.

Cowan said $900 million has been disbursed over the last two financial years through JSIF to replace pit latrines in Primary and All-age schools with flush toilets.
