Prime Minister.
The Jamaica Social Investment Fund (JSIF) has supported the
nation’s economic and social development for 20 years. Your
commitment to improving the lives of the most vulnerable in
our society is commendable. For this reason, I congratulate
you as you celebrate your 20th Anniversary.
JSIF has been a major social development partner in restoring
and rebuilding. The transformational approach to community
development has led to improvements in roads, basic schools,
health and community centres in small and rural communities.
These developments are executed through their comprehensive
and coordinated programmes. These programmes provide
a platform for the enhancement of our citizens. In essence,
it allows our people to improve their standard of living and
improve their lives.
We express our gratitude to JSIF for granting scholarships to
students in order to access tertiary education. Your contributions
not only assist students to access quality education, but you
also provide them with increased opportunities for the future.
The importance of education in upward social mobility is
undeniable and we must continue to partner to provide these
opportunities.
Let me take this opportunity to commend the management
and staff for making significant strides in fostering meaningful
partnerships with international partners such as the World
Bank, Caribbean Development Bank, European Union and other
investors that are strategically aligned with the Government’s
growth plan. These partnerships have created opportunities
that allow Jamaicans of unstable communities to achieve
their fullest potential and contribute to a progressive Jamaican
society.
As Jamaica strives to sustain and improve the quality of life for
its citizens, I encourage JSIF to stay committed to the mission
of transforming Jamaica into the place of choice to live, work,
raise families and do business.
