REQUEST FOR EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST CONSULTANCY FOR THE DVELOPMENT OF A JAMAICA BLUE MOUNTAIN & JAMAICA HIGH MOUNTAIN COFFEE MARKETING STRATEGY

  1. Background

 Loan No. 90170The Jamaica Social Investment Fund (JSIF) was established in 1996 as a component of the Government of Jamaica’s strategy to reduce poverty.  The Fund promotes, appraises, finances and supervises social and economic infrastructure projects, including schools, roads, agro-processing, water, sanitation, health centres, community centres, homes for children and the elderly, as well as, vocational skills training, counselling, parenting, life education and organizational strengthening.The Government of Jamaica has received a loan from the World Bank towards the cost of the SECOND rural economic development intitiative (REDI II) project.  The Jamaica Social Investment Fund (JSIF) intends to apply part of the proceeds of this loan to cover payments under this contract.2. Objectives of the Consultancy The services of a consulting firm with technical expertise in marketing of consumable luxury products will be contracted for this assignment, with the main focus and outputs as follows: 

  1. Validation Research on Jamaica’s Blue Mountain Coffee and other Viable Jamaica High Mountain Coffee Varieties (covering demand trends and production analysis)
  2. Branding of Coffee in international markets, specifically development of a Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee and Viable Jamaica High Mountain Coffee Varieties Marketing Strategy.

 3.   Scope of the Assignment The development of a marketing strategy for the Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee (JBM) and Jamaican High Mountain Coffee (JHM) – both trademarked commodities. The consulting firm is expected to provide a comprehensive strategy document for increasing the exports of Jamaican coffee to the respective target markets. The strategy will highlight pricing and positioning of the products as uniquely Jamaican. 4.  Qualifications and Experience  A consultancy firm/consortium with:

  • At least 5 years demonstrable experience in market research with demonstrable experience in research focusing on production and international distribution of high-end/luxury consumable products.
  • At least 5 years demonstrable experience developing marketing strategies
  • Experience in agronomics or agricultural economics
  • Demonstrable experience in the marketing and promotion of premium branded products, experience in marketing of premium coffees and /or other consumables would be an asset
  • Testimonials from completed assignments in all key areas above

 A Team Leader with at least a Post-graduate Degree in disciplines such as International Marketing, Development Studies, International Business or other relevant discipline. This individual should possess demonstrable project management experience. Key Expert 1:

  • Postgraduate Degree in Marketing
  • Over 5 years of experience in designing and executing marketing plans for products
  • Excellent communications skills
  • Excellent track record in working with persons across diverse cultural spectrums.   

 Key Expert 2:

  • Degree in Agronomics, Food Production or related field
  • Experience in the coffee industry
  • Excellent track record in working with producers from developing countries
