GOJ Integrated Community Development Project (ICDP 11) hosts Summer Camps in targeted communities  

 

                                                 

The JSIF through JM$16 million funding from the second phase of the Government of Jamaica’s Integrated Community Development Project (ICDP-II) is currently implementing Sports camps and general Summer Camps in targeted communities across Jamaica: to provide structured educational, recreational, behavioural support services and school supplies to students during the summer period.

 

            Two Sports camps are being held in the communities of Denham Town and August Town.  Each camp engages a total of 60 students in various sporting disciplines to include: boxing taekwondo and basketball (Denham Town Camp) and badminton, basketball, netball and football (August Town camp). These Camps are being implemented through partnerships with the Ministry of Education & Youth, Jamaica Defence Force, Jamaica Constabulary Force, and the University of Technology, Jamaica Badminton Association and the Jamaica Basketball Association.

           

A total of 3 General camps are underway to target 145 students aged 11 -17 years. The activities offered include sport, personal development and social skills, art, craft, visual and performing arts. These camps are being held in conjunction with the Ministry of Education and Youth, Ministry of National Security – (JCF and JDF), Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, Fight for Peace, Community Development Committees, University of Technology Jamaica, Jamaica Badminton Association, Jamaica Basketball Association and the Kiwanis Clubs of New Kingston and Downtown Kingston.

 

In addition to Camp activities, more than 500 students in 10 communities targeted by ICDP 11 will be provided with school supplies.  

 

            The communities targeted by the GOJ’s ICDP-II include Denham Town, August Town, Parade Gardens, and Greenwich Town in Kingston and St. Andrew; Anchovy, Norwood, Mount Salem and Salt Spring in St. James; Savanna- La- Mar in Westmoreland, and Treadlight in Clarendon.
