In 2006, the Jamaica Social Investment Fund celebrated 10 years of existence which was a significant achievement because the JSIF was conceived as a four year project. In recognition of this accomplishment the Fund had a year long series of activities which included the Best Kept Project Competition, a Church Service and a Long Service Awards Ceremony for staff members.
The celebrations started with the 10th Anniversary Thanksgiving Service which was held at the Pentecostal Tabernacle located at 72 Wildman Street, Kingston on October 1, 2006.
The Best Kept Project Competition was launched in June 2006. The competition was geared towards promoting and recognizing the importance of proper usage and maintenance of facilities that had been rehabilitated, equipped or constructed by the Fund in its first five years of operation. The winners of the competition were announced in November at an Award Ceremony, where the Fund also recognized the contribution of staff members to its success at a Long Service Awards Function.
There were four categories in the Best Kept Project Competition; comprising Health Centres, Roads, Community Centres and Schools. The Best Kept Project Award in the Health category was given to the Lincoln Health Centre in Manchester; the Grange Hill to Packi River Road in Portland was awarded for best maintained road while the Patrick Gardens Community Centre won the best kept project category for community centres. With regards to the school category, there were three winners, namely – 1st place was awarded to the Savanna-la-mar Infant School who received the Rt. Hon. P.J. Patterson Award for this achievement, while 2nd place went to the Cheapside Basic School in St. Elizabeth and 3rd place was the Bethesda Basic School in Portland.
