|
Guest speaker Mr. Bunting was very pleased with the development in the area and extolled all the parties that made the project possible. Meanwhile, Mrs. Rhonda Lumsden- Lue, General Manager of Human Resources and Administration spoke of the importance of unity in the community and in the nation as a whole. She also reminded everyone present that this venture is a long term investment in our children and it will generate guaranteed returns.
In its bid to improve the quality of life of people within our underserved communities, JSIF is keenly aware that the more that is done to enrich the lives of our young people, the better the future of Jamaica looks.
There can be no keener revelation of a society`s soul than the way it treats its children. The Jamaica Social Investment Fund believes that by investing in community educational infrastructure, specifically early childhood education, the nation`s children will be set on the path to success. The south Manchester community of Broadleaf has benefited from a $18 million basic school that has been constructed and equipped by the JSIF.The financial agreement was signed four months ago and today the new school consists of three (3) classrooms complete with sanitary and kitchen facilities, office, sick bay, play area, drinking trough and a new chainlink fence erected around the school compound. The play area was equipped with the necessary equipment. The previous structure was in a deplorable condition and principal of the school expressed heartfelt gratitude to the JSIF and is extremely touched with the investment in the community. Learning will be made much easier at this new education facility seeing that now the days of inconvenience due to the lack of a proper school are over. |
