Summary

The Jamaica Social Investment Fund is funded by soft loans and grants from regional and international funding agencies. JSIF’s major source of funding is the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (World Bank). The GOJ is also an equally important source of funding for the JSIF as it has been instrumental in negotiating loans and grants with regional and international agencies and providing counterpart funding for these agreements. As of March 31, 2007, the GoJ has provided US$23.26 million towards the financing of sub projects and administrative expenditure.

 

Beneficiary communities also contribute to the cost of their projects in the form of cash or kind. As of March 2007, the value of their contributions towards JSIF projects within their communities, stands at US$2.87 million.

 

The following table gives a summary of funding received by the JSIF. It is broken down in phases; Phase I and II. Phase I Funding refers to funds used to implement the JSIF from 1996. Phase II Funding refers to funding received from agencies after 2001.The table also shows the ongoing contribution amounts of the Government of Jamaica and beneficiary communities since 1996 to March 31, 2007.
