The Government of Jamaica has placed increased emphasis on Social Programme Intervention for the reduction of crime and violence in volatile communities. In so doing, there is an increased need to improve the ability of organisations working in Crime and Violence Reduction and Prevention to test the efficiency and effectiveness of the projects and activities that are being implemented.
Hence, through the staging of the seminar in collaboration with the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (World Bank), public safety practitioners involved in the planning and management of poverty and crime reduction programmes will be provided with current methodologies to facilitate effective design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of social interventions to enhance project outcome and impact.
The World Bank is currently funding the JSIF-executed Inner City Basic Services Project (ICBSP). Under the ICBSP twelve socially challenged communities are being targeted with the aim of improving the quality of life of persons living in these communities by addressing issues of public safety and lack of access to basic infrastructure.
