Peace Corps

The Peace Corps is an agency of the Federal Government of the United States of America (USA) devoted to world peace and friendship. The first group of PEACE Corps Volunteers (PCVs) came to Jamaica in June 1962.

The Peace Corps partnership with JSIF began in 2003 and has continued over the years providing technical support for a number of JSIF-funded programmes. To date, JSIF has benefited from the services of 8 Peace Corps Volunteers. Furthermore, following the passage of hurricane Ivan in 2004, JSIF benefited from technical assistance through the Crisis Corps - a programme of the Peace Corps that mobilizes experienced Peace Corps Volunteers to provide short term- assistance to countries worldwide.
