JPS is reporting that 160 households in the McGregor Gardens community of St. Andrew have benefitted from free house wiring under the Company’s Community Renewal Programme.  The initiative comes as part of its efforts to reduce the illegal abstraction of electricity in a number of communities which have been identified in the corporate area.
It has been observed that while several residents are eager to become regularized, their present house wiring is substandard, and therefore not able to meet the requirements for certification, by the Government Electrical Inspector (GEI).  The Company, through collaborative efforts with other agencies, such as the Jamaica Social Investment Fund (JSIF), sought to assist such persons with house wiring to enable them to access legal electricity.
