Mr. Omar Sweeney

Mr. Sweeney has over 20 years experience in engineering and project management in Jamaica and internationally. He has developed projects in both the public and private sector, for global clients and entities such as IBM, The Mills Corporation, Caribbean Development Bank, World Bank, European Union and the Government of Jamaica.

Prior to his appointment as the Managing Director of the Jamaica Social Investment Fund, Mr. Sweeney served at the Jamaica Public Service (JPS) as a Senior Executive, with responsibility for Energy Delivery for Kingston, St.  Andrew and Eastern Jamaica. He has also served in the post of Programme Director of the Community Renewal Programme at the Planning Institute of Jamaica (PIOJ), and as a General Manager, for Technical Services at the Jamaica Social Investment Fund. 

A past President of the Jamaica Institute of Engineers (JIE), Mr. Sweeney holds a Master of Engineering Degree (Civil) from the University of Florida, and was a recipient of the Martin Luther King Scholarship. He has also completed post graduate executive training at the London School of Economics and the University of Oxford.

He is married to Andrea, has two sons Alexander and Aaron and daughter Aliya. In his free time he enjoys spending time with his family and also enjoys Tennis, Cricket, Auto Racing and Restoration.
