JSIF Recycling Fact Sheet
RECYCLING: Waste that doesn’t go to Waste
What is recycling?
Recycling simply means taking a product or material at the end of its useful life and turning it into a usable raw material to make another product. In other words, it is the reprocessing of materials into new products.
Why recycle?
- It reuses potentially useful materials
- It reduces the consumption of raw materials and
- It reduces energy usage
Why should you recycle?
- It is the most efficient method to dispose of household/office waste.
- It reduces the environmental, social, and usually the economic costs of manufacturing.
- It protects our health and environment because it reduces all of the waste or garbage in our community.
- It conserves our natural resources because it reduces our need for raw materials.
- It saves energy and money.
Now, isn’t that enough motivation to start or step up our recycling efforts!
Can we recycle at JSIF?
As a matter of fact we can. It’s our waste and therefore our responsibility!
Our programme will involve the recycling of:
- PET (plastic) bottles
- Bond (uncoated) paper
- Newspaper
- Glass bottles
- Telephone directories
What’s my role in all of this?
The success of our programme depends on each of us playing a vital role:
As a first step you can:
- Minimize the amount of waste generated
- Sort your waste materials
- Ensure that you put recyclable materials in the correct bins
- Take recyclable materials to the designated locations in a timely manner
- Encourage compliance of your co-workers
