Whitfield Town is situated to the west of Cross Roads and to the north of the oil refinery and industrial area. On its southern boundary lies Spanish Town Road, which is the main road heading out of Kingston to the western regions of Jamaica. Its topography is generally flat with a gentle slope towards the south west. With a total area of 126 hectares (ha) and a population of 21,650 (STATIN Population Census 2001) indicating a residential density of around 172 persons per ha, Whitfield Town is the largest of the project communities in terms of population.
There are a number of community-based organizations (CBOs) in Whitfield Town. They include, the Community Development Committee (CDC); at least two youth clubs, two church-related organizations and a Parent-Teacher Association (PTA); A very active non-governmental organization (NGO), the S-Corner Clinic; Hope for Children and The Institute of Sport, under the Ministry of Local Government.
