INTEGRATED NETWORK INFRASTRUCTURE
Roads
Approximately 1450m (1 mile) of road rehabilitation and re-surfacing will be undertaken (assuming a road pavement width of 6.0m). Added to this, minor implementation of sleeping policemen and kerb construction are proposed. Upgrade to existing bridge in the community.
Street lighting & household connection
New streetlights will replace dysfunctional ones as agreed with the Parish Council. The Project will work with the Rural Electrification Programme (REP) and the Jamaica Public Service Company Limited (JPSCo) to encourage householders to regularize illegal electricity connections.
Water
Approximately 480m (1/3 mile) of distribution pipes of varying sizes are to be laid. Water enhancements such as hydrants and valves will be placed strategically along the new line. The project will also facilitate household connections inclusive of bends and 19mm (3/4") diameter pipes are also in the pipeline.
Sewage Treatment & Sanitation
JSIF proposes to lay approx 4200m (2.6 miles) of sewer pipes of varying diameter. JSIF is proposing to construct ten (10) no. reinforced concrete block and steel sanitary cores in Central Village. A Contact stabilization tank will also replace dysfunctional sewage treatment plant.
Storm Water Management
JSIF will undertake localized repairs and new construction to approximately 640m (2100ft) of concrete storm sewers. The varying drain sizes are 750 to 900 diameters. Just about 135m3 (175yd3 or 11 NSWMA Tipper trucks) of sludge and material blocking the drains will be removed.
Solid Waste
JISF will procure for use by the NSWMA or local service providers that have entered into service contracts with NSWMA, a compactor truck to operate waste collection systems in St. Catherine including Tawes Pen. Sixty- Five (65) garbage receptacles will be installed at strategic locations within the community as agreed with the NSWMA and the community.
Neighbourhood Improvement
Under the beautification programme improvements to or creation of green spaces as agreed with the community. It is also proposed to remove and replace zinc fences with block wall. The issue of zinc removal is a sensitive one and will require the full cooperation of the community to realize success.
