The World Bank

The World Bank is made up of two unique development institutions owned by 185 member countries—the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) and the International Development Association (IDA).  The IBRD provides financial and technical assistance to developing countries around the world.

 

Initial funding for the Jamaica Social Investment Fund (JSIF) was obtained from the World Bank through the IBRD, in the form of a US$20 million loan. Loan Agreement No. 4088-JM signed on the 2nd of October 1996 effective on January 6, 1997 with a closing date of March 31, 2001. 

 

Currently, World Bank funding totals US$54.3 million. This is broken down in the following manner:

  • National Community Development Project (NCDP) - US$15 million

  • Inner City Basic Services Project (ICBSP) - US$29.3 million

  • Hurricane Dean Recovery Loan - US$10 million
