Basic Infrastructure

INTEGRATED NETWORK INFRASTRUCTURE

 

Roads

Approximately 4400m (2.7 miles) of road rehabilitation and re-surfacing will be undertaken (assuming a road pavement width of 6.0m). Added to this, minor implementation of sleeping policemen and kerb construction are proposed.

 

Street lighting & household connection

New streetlights will replace dysfunctional ones as agreed with the Parish Council. The Project will work with the Rural Electrification Programme (REP) and the Jamaica Public Service Company Limited (JPSCo) to encourage householders to regularize illegal electricity connections.

 

Water

Approximately 7500m (4.5 miles) of distribution pipes of varying sizes are to be laid. Water enhancements such as hydrants and valves will be placed strategically along the new line. The project will also facilitate household connections inclusive of bends and 19mm (3/4") diameter pipes.

 

Sewage Treatment & Sanitation

JSIF is proposing to construct twelve (12) no. reinforced concrete block and steel sanitary cores in Central Village consisting of enclosed block work with door , concrete sinks and counter tops and waste collection lavatories.

 

Storm Water Management

JSIF will undertake localised repairs and some new construction to approximately 2000m (1.2 miles) of open channels, culverts and other storm water management fixture. The varying drain sizes are 900 dia., 600 x 600, 750 dia. and 900 x 600 wide.

 

Solid Waste

JISF will procure for use by the NSWMA or local service providers that have entered into service contracts with NSWMA, compactor trucks to operate waste collection systems in St. Catherine including Central Village. Garbage receptacles will be installed at strategic locations within the community as agreed with the NSWMA and the community.

 

Neighbourhood Improvement

Under the beautification programme improvements to or creation of green spaces as agreed with the community. It is also proposed to remove and replace zinc fences with block wall. The issue of zinc removal is a sensitive one and will require the full cooperation of the community to realize success.

 

Multi-Purpose Building

A multipurpose building of Approximately 950m2 (10,000ft2) proposed will be erected at a location already pre-determined community.
